Therapeutic, Trauma-informed Yoga and Mindfulness for young people
A body-led approach that supports children and young people to notice what is happening in their bodies, so that they can build the foundations for emotional regulation, connection and growth.
What makes Flourish & Flow distinctive?
Flourish & Flow takes a different starting point; Rather than starting with talking and problem-solving, it starts with the body.
This approach brings together insights from trauma-sensitive and neurodevelopmental practice, including neurosequential principles and polyvagal theory. It also draws on somatic approaches, traditional yoga philosophy and current understanding from neuroscience.
Flourish & Flow pulls these strands together to create a framework that supports children to notice their body’s sensations and become increasingly aware of the thoughts and behaviour patterns that tend to follow. Flourish & Flow teaches children to listen to their body, allow space for their emotions and then choose their actions intentionally. Children learn to use movement, breathing and mindfulness to regulate their nervous system and feel more at ease in themselves and in the world around them.
Understanding from the inside out
With Flourish & Flow, children learn to:
notice bodily sensations, thoughts and emotions and how they are all interconnected
begin to recognise what their body’s signals may be communicating
use movement, breathing, grounding and mindfulness techniques
pause before reacting to situations so that they can choose a more considered response
Through these skills, children can develop:
greater self-awareness and self-trust
an increased capacity for emotional regulation
greater agency and confidence in their choices
greater compassion for themselves and others
Who is Flourish & Flow for?
Flourish & Flow is designed for children and young people aged 6 to 18, who may benefit from additional support with their emotional well-being and mental health.
This could include children who are experiencing:
anxiety
low self esteem
emotional dysregulation
difficulties settling, engaging or thriving in school
identified social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs
waiting for neurodevelopmental assessment or specialist mental health support.
